Session1 – Sunday, March17th
TOPIC: General Dog Park Protocol
the rules and why they are important;
maintaining control/awareness of your dog as it interacts with other dogs/people;
appropriate behavior for children;
what to do if your dog gets attacked and/or you get bitten;
socializing your dog at the dog park; and,
how to introduce your dog to other dogs.
Session 2 – Sunday, March 24th
TOPIC: Understanding Dog Behavior
reading dog body language – aggressive vs. nervous vs. dominant vs. submissive;
what’s the difference between aggression and play, and where to draw the line; and,
is the dog park "right" for your dog?
Session 3 – Sunday, April 7th
TOPIC: Importance of Teaching Basic Obedience
basic behavioral training - positive reinforcement;
breaking bad habits, i.e. jumping up on guests, barking, tugging on leash, potty training; and,
teaching your dog fun tricks that are simple to learn.
Session 4 – Sunday, April 14th
TOPIC: Socializing Your Dog
how to socialize your dog; and,
the importance of socialization for puppies as well as older dogs.
Session 5 – Sunday, April 21st
TOPIC: Dog Care 101
proper feeding/weight management
benefits of spaying /neutering your dog
vet check-ups - vaccines and the diseases they prevent
heartworms and preventatives
intestinal parasites and zoonotic diseases
over-the-counter medications: which are helpful and which are harmful to dogs
importance of microchipping your dog
